Background and Pledge

Hello CV Family!

Returning for my 8th year in the district, I am pleased to again serve at Lloyde High School as the School Social Worker. Lloyde is a great place with dedicated staff and amazing students. I am excited to be a direct resource on campus, helping students in the many ways that we do within the Wellness Center. 2023 has already been a wild year with many ups and downs for all. Passionate about the work I do, I again make the pledge and commitment to helping our students, their families, and the community, thrive.

Briefly looking back, the 2022-23 school year was full of accomplishments for many of our sites, but last year, Lloyde knocked it out of the park. For the first time ever, our school site took part in the Directing Change Film Contest. The project is rooted in raising awareness about mental health, suicide prevention and social change. Efforts are aimed at increasing knowledge of warning signs, decreasing stigma and connecting those in need to resources. One of our students, Gabriella Martinez, won first place across LA County!!! Gabriella created her own animated video, with an impactful message and personal testimony. The video "Overthinking" advanced to the state finals and remains a powerful reminder of hope and resilience. It can be seen through the following link: https://vimeo.com/803274910

I understand how important it is for students to have solutions to the many problems they face on a day to day basis. It is again my goal for this year, to continue to provide students with the resources and support they need to succeed at school, in their careers and in life. In the Wellness Center (where I officially operate out of), we help students with their relationships, stress, social-emotional issues, mental health, occupational interests and life goals. If you haven't had a chance to see some of the magic taking place here on campus (and within our students) please stop by or reach out. I would love to let you in on the secret ingredient that we pass out around here on the daily. Thank you for taking the time to read this message and I hope to hear from you soon.

With Respect,

Mr. Brown
